PYQs

Practise questions grouped by chapter and source year.

Practice questions are organised using the years and labels in our source collection. Work through the solutions with your teacher; these are not a complete official examination paper.

Practice question 1

Source year: 20252 marks

State Fleming's left hand rule. In what way this rule is useful for us? [CBSE 2025]

Practice question 2

Source year: 20242 marks

Draw a neat diagram showing the magnetic field lines due to a circular loop carrying current. [CBSE 2024]

Practice question 3

Source year: 20235 marks

Explain the principle, construction and working of an electric motor with a neat labelled diagram. [CBSE 2023]

Practice question 4

Source year: 20223 marks

What is electromagnetic induction? State Fleming's right hand rule. [CBSE 2022]

Practice question 5

Source year: 20213 marks

An electric current is flowing through a straight conductor. What is the shape of magnetic field? State the rule to find direction of magnetic field. [CBSE 2021]

Formulae

Revisit important relationships and quick revision formulae.

Magnetic Field due to Straight Conductor

B = (μ₀I)/(2πr) B = Magnetic field, I = Current, r = distance

Magnetic Field in Solenoid

B = μ₀nI n = number of turns per unit length Inside solenoid: uniform field

Force on Current-Carrying Conductor

F = BIL sinθ F = Force, B = Magnetic field, L = Length θ = angle between B and I

Domestic Circuit

Live wire: Red/Brown (220V) Neutral wire: Black/Blue (0V) Earth wire: Green/Yellow (Safety)

∑

Derivations

Work through the reasoning behind key concepts.

Right Hand Thumb Rule

For straight conductor carrying current:

  • Thumb → Direction of current
  • Fingers → Direction of magnetic field (circular)

Fleming's Left Hand Rule

For force on conductor:

  • First finger → Magnetic field (N to S)
  • Second finger → Current direction
  • Thumb → Force/Motion direction Used in: Electric motor

Fleming's Right Hand Rule

For electromagnetic induction:

  • Thumb → Motion of conductor
  • First finger → Magnetic field
  • Second finger → Induced current Used in: Electric generator
